The Sun joins Bos on January 25
Fixed star Bos, Rho Capricorni (ρ Cap), is a 5th-magnitude binary star system on the face of the Sea-Goat, Capricornus Constellation.
Magnitude 4.78 (4.97 + 6.88), spectral type F2 IV + G1, color yellow – white. [1]
Astrologically, ρ Cap is known as Bos, Latin for “Cow,” first mentioned by Robson (1923). Lilly (1647) called it Rictus, “the point or angle where the upper and lower mandible of an animal meet.”
ρ Cap belongs to the Chinese asterism Niu, “Ox,” representing an ox hanged by the rope. It has the astronomical name Niu Su Liu, “Ox Asterism Six.” [2]

Bos Astrology
Fixed star Bos has the spectral type F2 + G1, indicating the planetary nature of Mercury, and to a lesser extent, the Sun.
Spectral Classes F and G: A thoughtful, serious, sincere, hardworking, adventurous, private, demanding and self-centered nature. Career and material success, the ability to lead and conquer, keenness of mind, determination, endurance, a rise followed by a fall, melancholy, self-destruction, and possibly violence. Harsh aspects can cause impatience, irritability, hostility, excessive drive, and an overly ambitious nature. [3]
Ptolemy (@150 AD)
Of the stars in Capricorn, … those in the mouth, as Saturn and, in some degree, as Venus… [4]
Lilly (1647)
Rictus Capricorn on 1. of Aquarius, if Mercury be there, argues a solid head-piece, or one of a piercing understanding. [5]
Robson (1923)
BOS, ρ Capricorni. ♒ 4° 3′.
Notes. A small star situated in the Goats’s face.
Influence. Of the nature of Saturn and Venus. It gives a clever and piercing intellect if in conjunction with Mercury. [6]
George and Parker (1985)
Fixed star Bos rules the front of the left leg 4½ inches below the knee. [7]
Morse (1988)
Oculus and Bos, π and ρ Capricorni respectively, are only 28′ apart. The first name is Latin for Eye, its position in the figure, while Bos means Ox. It is a little curious that this name turns up in Latin, for it is only known otherwise in that way as the Chinese asterism Kien Niew (Ox). Ptolemy, sensibly considering these two stars as effectively one, rated them as of the nature of Saturn-Venus, so that they virtually extend the range of Dabih before them. But they are a bit further from Giedi, so there is less of a Martian quality. Horoscopes with these well aspected, therefore, will show an ease of command in state, church or business, but with a tendency towards conservatism, and perhaps a lack of forward-looking vision in times of crisis. [8]
Asterism Niu the Ox
02♒30 to 05♒13
People born under the sign of the Ox have a strong sense of self-esteem, are competitive, and never admit defeat. They are even more energetic and talented when facing strong competitors. They are not scheming or manipulative, but rather down-to-earth, hardworking, and methodical. They do not usually express their true feelings.
The day when the Ox constellation is in charge is not auspicious; all construction and repair work will bring disaster. If you use this day for burial or other construction, you will sell all your fields and estates and forget about your village. [2]
The six stars of the Ox constellation are the celestial gateways, governing sacrificial offerings. The two stars to its north are called “Road” (ξ² Cap) and “Gathering Fire” (α² Cap). It is also said that the uppermost star (ξ²) governs roads, the next two stars govern gateways (α², β¹), and the next three stars govern the southern regions (π, ο, ρ).
A bright and large star indicates a prosperous reign, unobstructed gateways, and high prices for cattle; anger indicates high prices for horses; movement indicates cattle disaster and many deaths; a yellow initial color indicates low prices for soybeans; red indicates worm-infested soybeans; blue indicates high prices for soybeans; a straight star indicates low prices for grains; a curved star indicates high prices.
A solar eclipse indicates war; a halo indicates worry for a yin state and war.
A lunar eclipse indicates war; a halo indicates floods, high prices for women, poor harvests, many sudden deaths of cattle, and many illnesses in children. A lunar halo in the third month of winter indicates a general amnesty within 140 days; a large star in the center of the halo indicates the execution of a great general.
If the moon violates this, there will be floods, many cattle deaths, and worry for the state.
If Jupiter invades, the feudal lords will miss their appointed times; if it remains in the palace, cattle will suffer from disease and crops will be damaged; if it is east of cattle, it will be unfavorable for children; if it is west, it will bring wind and snow; if it is north, it will cause people to flee; if it moves in retrograde, there will be fire in the palace; if it stays for 30 to 90 days, the world will be at peace and morality will be enlightened.
If Mars invades, the feudal lords will suffer from many illnesses and ministers will plot against their rulers; if it remains, crops will fail and war will break out; if it enters or exits and remains south of the Dipper, there will be a pardon.
If Saturn invades, there will be earthworks; if it remains, there will be rain and snow, and people, cattle, and horses will fall ill.
If Venus invades, the feudal lords will not communicate; if it remains, war will break out in the country; if it enters, there will be military plots and many deaths.
If Mercury invades, the army will be defeated and generals will be transferred, and ministers will plot against their rulers.
If a guest star invades and remains, cattle and horses will be expensive, and war will break out in Yue; if it exits, many cattle will die, there will be earthquakes, and horses will be expensive.
If a comet invades, Wu will divide its forces and break out; if it exits, grain will be expensive, and cattle will die. If a comet invades, the reign title will be changed, grain will be expensive, many cattle will die, Wu and Yue will break out, and there will be a ruler who will establish himself.
A meteor streaking across the sky signifies the king’s intention to change course; spring and summer bring a bountiful harvest; autumn and winter bring high grain prices; black signifies thriving cattle and horses, and tribute from border passes.
Pale white clouds stretching across the sky indicate war or mourning; red clouds also signify war; yellow or white clouds entering the sky indicate cattle will thrive; black clouds indicate cattle will die. [9]
Constellation Capricornus the Goat
00♒14 to 28♒48
Capricorn has a great influence over human affairs portending major changes in such areas as climate and political customs. Along with the sign, the constellation is also noted as the “Mansion of Kings”. Unfavorably situated with regards to lunar eclipses, it indicated major storms, especially at sea. [10]

Mercury conjunct Bos: It argues a solid head-piece, or one of a piercing understanding. [5]
A clever and piercing intellect. [6]
This gives the individual an extremely quick mind. They have quick flashes of insight that is beyond the normal, and a piercing intellect that enables these persons to grasp a given situation instantly. They are clairvoyant and can invent almost anything their mind focuses upon. However, there is a danger here in that their insight and inventive ability can actually help others misuse the information by creating those things that bring destruction and harm to the world. In a positive way, they can change the lives of people through their chosen fields that would generally encompass electricity, radiation, magnetism, mechanical and other professions closely aligned to these areas. Rarely do they become involved with other energies, such as coal, water and so on, preferring to stay with electrical-type energies. Their keen insight is strictly impersonal and does not extend to analyzing individuals. It is more detached and abstract thereby giving them the ability for scientific and inventive discoveries. They dislike large groups for the most part, and prefer to work alone. Women are excellent at working with children for they can invent or put together things that appeal to the young. [7]
Emanuel Swedenborg 0°15′, Cicero 0°29′.
Mars conjunct Bos (2° orb): This position affects the health, It causes damage to the bone structure of the left leg. There is pressure at this point that also brings about a chemical change which dissolves the bone this causing a ripple affect on the bone structure through the loss of calcium. Later in life, the leg can be shortened somewhat, however, the real problem to the individual is the hot, flashing pain they experience when walking. The pain is sporadic and is directly related to these persons’ anxieties. They experience this difficulty throughout the life. Cool packs with mint herbs on the leg will help as well as consumption of mint teas. In addition, they must learn to control their anxieties and impatience. Impatience and anxiety is the key here. If not controlled, the circulation at this point can be affected as well as the nerves. The diet of these persons must include calcium, or calcium taken daily in small amounts. [7]
