Castor at 20°14′ Cancer has an orb of 2°20′
The Sun joins Castor on July 12
Fixed star Castor, Alpha Geminorum (α Gem), is a sextuple star system located in the head of the Northern Twin of the Gemini Constellation. Combined magnitude: 1.58; spectral type: A1.
Castor appears to the naked eye as a single star, but is composed of six individual stars organized into three spectroscopic binary systems. All six stars are bound to each other by gravity and share a common motion through space.
The three binaries are designated Castor A, B, and C. Castor A and B are both composed of a white star and a red dwarf companion. The primary white stars are about 5 times as massive as red dwarfs. Castor Ba is a chemically peculiar star.
Castor C is an eclipsing binary star system consisting of two red dwarf stars believed to have identical properties. All the red dwarfs in the Castor system are flare stars, variable stars that can undergo unpredictable, dramatic increases in brightness for a few minutes. [1]

α Gem is officially and traditionally named Castor.
From its ancient Greek name Κάστωρ, a character in Greek mythology, the twin of Pollux (β Gem). Reapplied in Renaissance times. As noted under α Cep, Castor’s modern Arabic name (based on indigenous Arabic) was muqaddam al-dhirā‘ain, “the Preceding One of the Two Cubits, or Forearms.” This was derived from the indigenous Aranic name al-dhirā‘ain for two pairs α/β Gem and α/β CMi, where those stars represented either “two cubits” (a cubit is a traditional unit of measure marked by a person’s forearm, from elbow to fingertip). or, the “two forearms” of the indigenous Arabic al-asad (see ε Gem). In addition the single pair α/β Gem marked the indigenous Arabic lunar mansion al-dhirā‘, “the Cubit, or Forearm.” [2]
Castor, Ovid’s Eques, “the Horseman” of the Twins, is the well-known name for this star, current for centuries; but in later Greek days it was Ἀπόλλων, and Apollo with the astronomers even through Flamsteed’s time. The Babylonians used Castor to mark their 11th ecliptic constellation, Mash-mashu-Mahrū, the “Western One of the Twins,” while with Pollux the two constituted Mas-tab-ga-gal-gal, “the Great Twins.” As an object of veneration, Castor was Tur-us-mal-maχ, “the Son of the Supreme Temple,” but in astrology, everywhere, it has been a portent of mischief and violence.
When the Arabs adopted the Greek figures, they designated this star as Al Rās al Taum al Muḳaḍḍim, “the Head of the Foremost Twin,” but, according to Al Tizini, the early, indigenous term was Al Awwal al Dhirāʽ, “the First in the Paw or Forearm.”
The two bright stars were the 5th manzil, Al Dhirāʽ, and the 5th nakshatra, Punarvarsū, “the Two Good Again.” [3]
In Chinese astronomy, Castor belongs to the Chinese asterism Beihe, “North River.” It is known as Beiheer, “North River Two. Beihe is the 4th asterism of the 22nd lunar mansion Jing, “Well.” [4]

Castor Astrology
Fixed star Castor has the spectral types A and M, indicating the planetary nature of Venus and, to a lesser extent, Saturn.
VENUS-SATURN: Cunning, bad morals, mercenary, repulsive habits, perverted tastes, unfortunate love affairs, seduction. [5]
CASTOR. α Geminorium.
Notes. A binary star, bright white and pale white, situated on the head of the Northern Twin. It represents Castor, the mortal one of the twins, famous for his skill in taming and managing horses. Sometimes called Apollo, and symbolically named A Ruler yet to Come.
Influence. According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Mercury; to Wilson, Simmonite and Pearce, of Mars, Venus and Saturn; and, to Alvidas, of the Moon, Mars and Uranus. It gives distinction, a keen intellect, success in law and many travels, fondness for horses, sudden fame and honor but often followed by loss of fortune and disgrace, sickness, trouble and great affliction. Its natives are said to be mischievous and prone to violence. [5]
CASTOR. α Geminorium.
A complex system of stars, and all revolve around a common center once every 380 years. The main star has a spectral characteristic of A2 and the companion has a spectral class of AO. Each of the stars has an invisible companion and in reality this is a sextuple system. It is a bluish-white system.
BASIC INFLUENCES: Of yore they were a portent of violence and mischief. They produce sudden rises and honors, followed by a fall, failures, gains, losses, troubles, afflictions; keen intellect, disappointments, fortunes, restrictions, turbulence, imprisonment. [6]
Castor: α in the constellation of Gemini, which is named after Castor and Pollux, the sons of Zeus and Leda formed. Even the Babylonians saw here a pair of shepherds or warriors. Castor, also called Apollo, is, through his mercurial nature, somewhat intensified by Jupiter, the friendly part, beneficial to the mind and morals; Pollux, also called Hercules, is the more warlike, villainous one. Castor’s friendly effect is particularly evident in conjunction with Mercury or the Moon. [7]
Castor (Apollo), Alpha Geminorum.
Castor, in the Twins and together with Pollux, is called “Thiassis eyes”, a name given to these two stars by the ancient Germans. The Babylonians considered both stars as a pair belonging together, as “herdsman and warrior”. The Phoenicians recognized in the twin stars, helpers if in peril on voyages at sea.
Castor is influenced by Mercury and has a blend of Jupiter in it. Linked with the Moon and Mercury, it has the effect of such people being blessed with a good nature and fine morals. It is also supposed to convey refined manners. A conjunction with the Sun or Mars will make for energetic characteristics and a certain tendency for satire and cynicism, depending on the position of Mercury or Mars in the chart as a whole.
Castor conjunction Mars is found with Elsbeth Ebertin, who put a lot of energy into defending astrology. She conferred with scientists, newspaper editors and civil servants, battled with them and won and then could not restrain herself from making satirical remarks. Significantly, her colleague Georg Hoffmann has Mercury positioned in the same place in his cosmogram. The poet Erich Kästner has a Castor conjunction with Mars. He is well known for his biting criticism of society, and he puts before society his “distorting mirror.” Also known as a critic is Hans Magnus Enzensberger, who created and edited poems that criticized the time. He had a name among his contemporaries as “the angry young man.” In his nativity, Castor was conjunction Pluto = Mars/Jupiter. Thomas Mann has a conjunction Castor-Moon. A tragic life was the destiny of Marie Antoinette, queen of France, whose life was ended by the guillotine. At her birth, Castor was positioned together with Mars. [8]
Castor is one of the Twins and Pollux the other. While Castor has a Venusian nature (according to its spectral type) and Pollux a nature as that of Mars, Castor has always been considered to portend mischief and violence while Pollux eminence and renown. This, of course, is due to the fact that the energy of Mars can be extremely valuable in such areas as war and business and politics, while Venus can cause an indolent character leading to his own destruction. The other, and opposite, indications of these stars include for Castor a keen mind and many travels, and for Pollux a cruel, rash nature and a propensity to be connected with poisons. [9]
Castor, α Gemorium, was the horseman of the twins, just as Abel was the animal keeper, and he shared Abel’s fate of being killed by his brother. Pollux got his brother drunk to make the task easier, or as one wag among classical astrologers put it: He got Castor oiled! In astrology, Castor is counted a star of misfortune, and the specific association with breaking an arm or leg may come from the Ptolemaic classification of this as a Mercury star; a planet which is much associated with the arms, or the limbs generally. Castor is also noted in natal astrology for proneness to nervous breakdowns, and the author has often found it prominent on the horoscopes of his many clients in neurotic distress.
But Castor’s Mercury quality does have a better side to it, as does all else counted ‘bad’ in this world of the heavens. People with it prominent and well-aspected are exceptionally gifted intellectually, a good creative quality along with this – a bonus from the combination of intellectual Gemini constellation and intuitive Sign (Cancer). Where these potential geniuses often need help is in not letting their concern for others go ‘over the top’ beyond their own sensible state of responsibility and practical ability to help, the negative qualities of the combined Gemini-(Cancer) qualities. Castor’s connection with Mercury goes deeper yet. The Greeks knew it at one time as Apollo, and, at another time, they called the planet Mercury by that name. Still earlier, Apollo was that other sun which we have since called Phaeton, which is no more. And just as that was Sun’s close companion then, so is Mercury its closest one now. And to cap that, Castor, the former Apollo, is in fact a Binary Pair of stars, as once were Sun and Phaeton. A binary pair evokes a deep-seated fear in humanity, an unconscious recall of The Disaster, so that we tend to react to it just as one does all the wrong things in a moment of crisis, if it happens to half-awaken in one some earlier trauma of the same kind. The author has experimented with acquainting ‘Castor-stricken’ clients with the true story behind our fear of binaries, and the results so far in banishing panic reactions in crises have been very heartening. [10]
Fixed star Castor rules the front of the stomach and the parathyroids. [11]
Asterism Beihe, the North River
19♋06 to 23♋12
Beihe (Northern River) and Nanhe (Southern River) are known as the “Gateway of Heaven”; they govern passes and bridges. Beihe is also known as Beishu (Northern Garrison), and it governs water.
If the stars of the river garrisons waver or shake, warfare breaks out in the Central Kingdom. If the stars are incomplete or missing, travel routes are blocked, and waters overflow. Bright stars are auspicious; if they are dim or wavering, border wars arise, distant peoples rebel, and the ruler suffers anxiety.
If the Five Planets emerge from, enter, linger in, or station themselves at Beihe, warfare erupts; if they encroach upon it, a noblewoman dies; if they ride over it, the northern ruler faces distress.
If the moon passes along the central path between the Two Rivers, the people are at peace, the harvest is bountiful, and there is no war; if it passes south of the central path, the ruler faces misfortune and high officials become disloyal. If the moon encroaches upon them, the Central Kingdom faces trouble—specifically war, mourning, drought, or epidemic; if it moves southwest, war and drought ensue.
If Mercury stations itself in Beihe, external warfare arises and a frontier official plots rebellion; if it lingers there, warfare erupts in all directions.
If Venus lingers at the Two Rivers, war breaks out. If Venus lodges at Beihe, a noblewoman dies within thirty days, and internal plotting occurs; if it stations itself at Beihe, warfare breaks out across the realm within one hundred days.
If Mars encroaches upon the Two Rivers, war ensues; if it lingers for over thirty days, rivers overflow. If Mars enters Beihe from the west, a death occurs within sixty days; if it enters from the east, warfare breaks out within ninety days; alternatively, if it emerges from Beihe and stations itself to the north, a frontier general will achieve victory by engaging in unauthorized military action against a foreign state.
If Jupiter encroaches upon the Two Rivers, the northern ruler faces anxiety. If Jupiter enters Beihe, a high official is executed.
If Saturn stations itself in Beihe, warfare erupts, followed by an amnesty or major earthworks within sixty days; if it stations itself at the western part of the garrison, the grain crops fail to mature.
If a guest star lingers at the Two Rivers, drought and epidemics occur. If a guest star encroaches upon Beihe, a death occurs abroad while traitors lurk within; entry from the east signals warfare within ninety days; entry from the west signals a death within sixty days; stationing there portends a great flood.
The appearance of a comet signals war; if it lingers, drought follows.
If a meteor passes between the Two Rivers, the realm faces calamity; if it enters Beihe, northern forces invade the Central Kingdom, and passage through mountain passes and across bridges is blocked.
A shooting star signals war, mourning and trouble at the border garrisons.
If pale or white clouds enter the Two Rivers, river routes are blocked; if they emerge red, the Emperor’s forces are marching against the feudal lords. If yellow clouds enter, virtuous decrees are issued; if it emerges, disaster follows. If pale, bluish-white clouds encroach upon Beihe, there is warfare and epidemic disease at the frontier, as well as distress for the northern ruler. [12]
Constellation Gemini the Twins
00♋07 to 28♋18
GEMINI. The Twins.
Legend. The constellation represents Castor and Pollux, the twin sons of Leda and Jupiter. It has also been suggested that it may represent Apollo and Hercules.
Influences. Ptolemy makes the following observations; the stars in the feet of Gemini have an influence similar to that of Mercury, and moderately to that of Venus; the bright stars in the thighs are like Saturn. It is said to cause trouble and disgrace, sickness, loss of fortune, affliction and danger to the knees. By the Cabalists it is associated with the Hebrew letter Qoph and the 19th Tarot Trump, The Sun”. [5]
Gemini constellation a fortunate sign portending intense devotion, genius, largeness of mind, goodness, and liberality. With Virgo it is the House of Mercury. It rules over human hands, arms, and shoulders; and over America, Flanders, Lombardy, Sardinia, Armenia, Lower Egypt, Brabant, and Marseilles. It is peculiarly connected with the fortunes of the south of England and the city of London. [3]

Moon conjunct Castor aspecting Mercury: Linked with the Moon and Mercury, it has the effect of blessing such people with a good nature and fine morals. It is also supposed to convey refined manners. [8]
Mercury conjunct Castor: Remarkable psychic powers entailing criticism and ridicule but eventual prominence. [5]
Natives with a well-aspected Mercury will have psychic ability, however, if Mercury is adversely aspected to Neptune, this psychic ability can create confusion in particular with a negative or no Moon aspect, and there is the possibility of turbulence. Such natives might appear normal but are plagued with internal dissension. Prominence is possible. [6]
There are no extreme problems at this point except that the energy flow to the parathyroids may cause an imbalance in the digestive fluids; that is, an imbalance of fluids at times, and at other times, a little less. This is not particularly severe. When the digestive enzymes are abundant, they can eat heavier foods. When low, they should eat lighter foods. Lettuce is excellent for this point. These are the persons who can write articles or books but success through their writings would not come during their lifetime. Recognition would come after the person has left the earth plane. Only then will they get the recognition and praise they deserve for helping humanity. [11]
Friendly. [7]

Venus conjunct Castor: Strange and peculiar life, many extreme ups and downs, unfavorable for marriage. [5]
These natives have the ability to overcome adversity, and generally such natives lead a life that is out of the ordinary. This conjunction is not particularly good for marriage unless the marriage partner is of a congenial nature. The more negative nativities can experience many problems, turbulence or illness. [6]
This causes the natives to be overly parental in relationships, whether they are business, family, friendships or their marriage partner. They are continually attempting to mother everyone, making sure they are all wearing warm clothes in cold weather or have some hot soup to eat. This is extremely overdone, but it is not really harmful. It can become overbearing, however. [11]
Alan Leo 0°03′, Judy Garland 0°18′, JonBenét Ramsey 0°32′, Bonnie Parker 0°56′ (and POF), George H. W. Bush 1°43′, Mel B 1°58′.
Mars conjunct Castor: Evil disposition, much travel, aimless life, many ups and downs. [5]
These natives will have it made, success seems to come to them, when for some reason conditions change. The kind of changes can be many, illness, marital problems, even legal matters, regardless of what causes the conditions, such natives will find their life altered, some might even become almost ‘basket’ cases, and their life style will go into another direction. The more strong-willed will make a comeback, in time. Violent conditions also possible under this conjunction. [6]
Energetic characteristics and a certain tendency for satire and cynicism, depending on the position of Mercury or Mars in the chart as a whole. [8]
Leopold II of Belgium 0°01′, Marie Antoinette 0°22′, Elsbeth Ebertin 0°38′, Erich Kästner 0°41′, Klaus Barbie 0°42′, RuPaul 1°05′, Ruth Pointer 1°44′ (and Saturn).
Jupiter conjunct Castor: Philosophical and occult interests, loss through law, speculation or travel, danger of judicial sentence. [5]

Saturn conjunct Castor: Timid, distrustful, eccentric, original mind but difficulty in expression, better writer than speaker, considerable intellectual powers, fond of detail, prejudiced against popular opinions, unfavorable for marriage, peculiar domestic conditions, early sickness of children, gain at end of life through hard work. [5]
Karen Silkwood 0°49′ (and MC), Padre Pio 0°51′, Leonardo DiCaprio 1°05′, Durek Verrett 1°15′, Liza Minnelli 1°29′ (and Moon), Ruth Pointer 1°32′ (and Mars), André the Giant 1°32′, Nostradamus 2°03′ (and Jupiter).
Uranus conjunct Castor: Conscientious, sensitive, impressionable, great psychic power entailing much public criticism, desirous of pleasing all, favorable for marriage and gain, few, if any, children but harmonious relations with them, loss in early life of the parent of opposite sex to native. [5]
These are the individuals with nervous stomachs, and it is psychological. They have an insecure feeling within and to alleviate the problem, they must find out what makes them insecure, and then do what is necessary to eliminate it. It would be very helpful for these persons to drink a small glass of warm milk before retiring. [11]

i have a stellium there of mars(16:40 degrees), venus 17:24 degrees) and jupiter (19:53 degrees) in the 12th house.
Castor in Cancer is an evil star especially if it is rising in the ascendant and opposition Uranus plus some squares. I found this star prominent in “The Angel of Death” chart: Josef Mengele the SS doctor. Neptune is conjunct both Castor and Pollux both evil stars. This dreadful doctor caused the deaths of thousands if not millions. He is perhaps the worst Nazi of all of Hitler’s troops. Neptune in Cancer has at least 9 aspects so the evil nature of Neptune is especially highlighted.
Good information thank you Judith. I have some others listed in Nazi Horoscopes but that post is about Yod aspect patterns.
I wish that theres more info for Mars conjunct Castor since I have it on 0 orb, conjunct Chiron.
Thanks for citing your sources.
my daughter…has North Node conj Castor..on her MC…
she is voracious, ambitious, doesn’t care who she ruins or harms..to get what she wants…
Thanks for that again Jamie. You cannot really mean though though that one aspect in anyone’s chart paints the whole picture. However, the July 13th eclipse was opposite Pluto at 20.40 degrees. Now what did that mean for the world with the powerful Sun and Moon together ??
I cannot get busy with other charts because this bothersome character always shows up just to use our yard. Castor is a evil star in square to Venus conjunct Saturn. This jerk is deceitful and withdraws from wife and children. I feel sorry for his family who appears to try to make a life without this childish useless father showing up for someone to help out. This character will use anyone acting sympathetic until he gets his claws into someone to bail him out. Not all Pisces are losers but his Sun joins Scheat who spends his life dreaming of impossibilities. His wife works yet he want them to live out in the wilderness.
Up yours…and around the corner
Castor Sun 20.40 square Mars,square pluto,square Saturn
“evil disposition (LGBT?)” …………………..wtf?
Vivian Robson wrote this in London in 1923. Because of the law and the influence of the Church, he wrote “evil disposition” instead of “gender diverse”. I thought it would be helpful to add (LGBT) but I guess not.
