The Sun joins Alderamin on April 2
Fixed star Alderamin, Alpha Cephei, is a 2nd magnitude single star in the right shoulder of the King, Cepheus Constellation.
Magnitude 2.44, spectral type A7V, delta Scuti variable. Alderamin is located near the precessional path traced across the celestial sphere by the Earth’s north pole. It will be the pole star in 7500 AD.
α Cep is officially named Alderamin.
Applied to α Cep since medieval times. The derivation understood since Renaissance times was from al-dhirā‘ (al-)yamīn, “the Right Forearm,” an assumed modern Arabic descriptive term for α Cep. But this is apparently erroneous. Firstly, in the Almagest, α Cep is described on the “right shoulder” (Arabic al-katif or al-mankib) of Cepheus, whereas no right “forearm” (al-dhirā‘) is described for the figure. Secondly, in Arabic, “right forearm” is spelled correctly as al-dhirā‘ al-yumnä, which (in contrast to al-yamīn) lacks assonance in the last syllable to Alderamin.
Therefore, it is more likely that Alderamin is derived from the various medieval Western abbreviations of muqaddam al-dhirā‘ain, “the Preceding One of the Two Cubits, or Forearms,” which was a modern Arabic name (based on indigenous Arabic for α Gem. This would have been wrongly transferred to α Cep in medieval times. [A Dictionary of Modern Star Names, Kunitzch, Smart, 2006, p.28.]
In Chinese, Alpha Cephei is belongs to the asterism 天鈎 Tiāngōu, “Celestial Hook.” Its astronomical name is 天鈎五 Tian Gou wu, “Celestial Hook Five,” and it is also known as 内五诸侯 Nàwuzhūhóu, “Five internal feudal vassal.” Cepheus in Chinese astronomy – Wikipedia.

Alderamin Astrology
Fixed star Alderamin has the spectral type A7, which indicates the planetary nature of Venus.
SPECTRAL CLASS A: Great honors, artistic appreciation, unexpected gains, good fortune, riches, good judgment, sociableness, creativeness, idealism, and impulsiveness. Challenging aspects cause wantonness, indiscretion, scandals, foolhardiness, destructiveness, cleverness, many anxious moments and a self-seeking nature. The variability adds a tendency to be argumentative, inconstant and unreliable. The Power of the Fixed Stars, Joseph E. Rigor, 1979, p.245-246.
Alderamin: Arabic: “Right arm,” namely of Cepheus, α Cephei, traditionally Saturn, tempered by Jupiter. However, Jupiter’s influence is slight, most likely not belonging to the star itself but only to its surroundings, and is insignificant compared to the strong Neptunian influence, which has hitherto been completely ignored. It usually manifests itself in a lower, destructive octave; however, it remains to be investigated whether this star, whose properties seem quite mysterious and difficult to study, might not also develop favorably in the horoscopes of psychics or magical individuals. In any case, it only acts in conjunction with Saturn, the Moon, or Neptune. Course in scientific natal astrology; Volume 2, Johannes Vehlow, 1934, p.250.
Constellation Cepheus
According to Ptolemy, Cepheus is like Saturn and Jupiter. It gives authority and a sober mind, sometimes making its natives judges or arbitrators, but exposes to cruel and severe trials. If Mars afflicts the luminaries from Cepheus, especially if in an angle, it causes death by hanging, decapitation, crucifixion or impalement. By the Kabalists this constellation is associated with the Hebrew letter Shin and the 22nd Tarot Trump “The Fool.” [1]
In classical times Cepheus was said to presage earthquakes and other events that affect large portions of mankind .[2] The ancient astronomers were Cepheans who made Cepheus the father of their royal family of stars. [4] Cepheus was the inventor of astronomical science. [5]

In the 15th part of Capricorn rises Cepheus. Whoever is born with this star in the east will be grave and austere, with all the authority of severity [and] to be feared, always pretending to have a face from the integrity of their morals, who follow the Stoic sect in true affection. Such were the ancient Catos, such in our times is Tullianus, who, by the merit of his severity, even obtained the insignia of the ordinary consulship. But if Venus and Mercury are witnesses in this place, they always read or compose tragic poems. [3]
