Sadachbia at 06°43′ Pisces has an orb of 1°30′
The Sun joins Sadachbia on February 25
Fixed star Sadachbia, Gamma Aquarii, is a 3.85 magnitude bluish-white binary star system in the right arm of the Water Bearer, Aquarius Constellation. Spectral class A0 V.
The traditional name Sadachbia comes from the Arabic expression سعد الأخبية (sa‘d al-’axbiyah), “luck of the homes (tents).” Another Arabic name was أول ألأجبية (awwil al ahbiyah), “first of luck of the homes (tents),” the Latin translation being Prima Tabernaculorum. In Hindi, it is also called Satabhishaj, “a hundred physicians,” it is called Sadhayam in Tamil.
The Arabic asterism الأخبية (al Aḣbiyah), “the Tent,” consists of Gamma Aquarii, Pi Aquarii, Zeta Aquarii and Eta Aquarii. These same stars make up the Chinese asterism 墳墓 (Fén Mù), “Tomb.”

Sadachbia Astrology
Sadachbia is also called the “The Lucky Star of Hidden Things.” In horary, it indicates the ability to discover that which is hidden or lost, especially when the star is emerging from the Sun’s rays (i.e. helical rising). [1]
The spectral class of Sadachbia is A0, indicating a pure Venus nature. These bluish-white stars give great honors, artistic appreciation, unexpected gains, good fortune, riches, good judgment, sociableness, creativeness, idealism, and impulsiveness. Challenging aspects cause wantonness, indiscretion, scandals, foolhardiness, destructiveness, cleverness, many anxious moments and self-seeking nature. [2]
Sadachbia, γ Aquarii, is yet another lesser-known star, astrologically, but this one really does deserve some attention. The name, in which the ‘ach’ is pronounced as if in German, not like ‘atch’ in English, is a poor rendering from the Arabic: Al Sa’as al Ahbiyah, ‘The Lucky One for Hidden Things, or for Tent-dwellers. Ahbiyah is the plural of a word once common for a tent but also means a place of seclusion.
It is said that when the Sun rises conjunct this star, about February 25th, then all the worms and insects come out of their winter holes, and tent dwellers can move to their Spring pasturelands. That is the warmer climes of Arabia, of course, not London or New York.
The meaning we find in this star is as an indicator of the right time for making moves, entering upon new ventures, and a likelihood of general success in enterprises if Sadachbia is well placed and aspected on the horoscope. Ptolemy did not record a planet simile for it, but something like Venus-Mercury would fit quite well. He gave the same to Deneb Adige, Tail of the Swan, α Cygni, which precedes it by 1°40′ or so, and likewise has connotations of ‘time to move on.’ [3]
Constellation Aquarius
Ptolemy makes the following observations: “The stars in the shoulders of Aquarius operate like Saturn and Mercury; those in the left hand and in the face do the same: those in the thighs have an influence more consonant with that of Mercury, and in a less degree with that of Saturn: those in the stream of water have power similar to that of Saturn, and moderately to that of Jupiter.” By the Kabalists Aquarius is associated with the Hebrew letter Nun and the 14th Tarot Trump “Temperance,” over which virtue the constellation appears to have some rule. The beauty of Ganymedes and his flight through the air also link it to the ideas of personal charm and aviation with which it is certainly connected. [4]
The constellation of Aquarius is traditionally the place of good fortune. It indicates full-flowing rivers and springs and portends a sufficient amount of water for agricultural requirements. When in mutatine rising (Sun in 12th house conjunct Ascendant) or in vespertine setting (Sun in the 7th house conjunct Descendant) aspect to the Sun, the indication is for rains (but not floods). In medieval astrology, Saturn in the constellation of Aquarius meant that mankind was completely dominated by this planet. While none of the named stars are of the Saturnian spectra, the house of Saturn can be expected to exert its influence throughout the constellation. [1]
al Aḣbiyah the Tent
The Arabic asterism الأخبية (al Aḣbiyah), “the Tent,” consists of Gamma (γ) Aquarii, Zeta (ζ) Aquarii, Eta (η) Aquarii and Pi (π) Aquarii. Danielle Adams of the University of Arizona termed it The Auspice of Woolen Tents (sa’d al-akhbiya). The Arabic term as-su’ud indicates good fortune or something that is auspicious especially a star.
As shown below, this asterism appears as a triangle of moderately bright stars with a fourth star located right in the center. It resembles the woolen tent (al-khiba’), often made with three poles that met in the middle. The 25th Arabic lunar station (Al Sa’d al Ahbiya) was named after this asterism. [4]
These same stars make up the Chinese asterism 墳墓 (Fén Mù), “the Tomb.”
- γ Aquarii, Sadachbia, from the Arabic sa‘d al-’axbiyah, meaning “luck of the homes (tents).”
- ζ Aquarii, Sadaltager, from the Arabic sa‘d al-tājir, “the luck of the merchant.”
- η Aquarii, Hydria, from the Greek hudria, meaning “water jar.” Another name for this star is Deli, from the Hebrew word literally meaning “hard.”
- π Aquarii, Seat, from the Arabic ši’at, meaning “hope.”
According to Ptolemy, the stars in the stream of water have power similar to that of Saturn and moderately to that of Jupiter (dignified, pious, conservative, acquisitive, retentive. Honor and preferment if culminating.) [1]
