Fixed star Schedir, Alpha Cassiopeiae, is a 2nd-magnitude single star on the breast of the Ethiopian Queen, Cassiopeia Constellation.
Magnitude 2.24, Spectral type K0IIIa, color orange [1]
α Cassiopeiae has been sometimes classified as a variable star, but no variability has been detected since the 19th century. Also, three companions to the star have been listed in the Washington Double Star Catalog, but it seems that all of them are just distant line-of-sight optical components. [2]
α Cas is traditionally and officially named Schedar. Applied with various spellings since medieval times, from the Arabic word al-şadr, “the breast,” used in the Arabic Almagest in describing this star. [3]
Ulug Beg called it Al Dhāt al Kursiyy, “The Lady in The Chair,” which Riccioli changed to Dath Elkarti. [4]

Schedir Astrology
Fixed star Schedir has the spectral class K0, indicating the planetary nature of Mars.
SCHEDIR, α Cassiopeia. A giant star of spectral class KO, with bright line spectra. This is a multiple and slightly variable star. The companion star reduces the adverse effectiveness of the main star. The irregularly variable period is about 79 days. The companion star is blue.
This star will generally be used for positive negativities. The star imparts to its natives sorrows in love, good tempered, fame through help of superiors, demon power, mystical preference, outwardly serious but likes the good life. [5]
Schidir, Alpha Cassiopeia. Schedir is the main star of Cassiopeia, and has a Saturn nature, lessened by Venus. This fixed star incorporates serious demeanor with joi se vivre. Should good living transgress reasonable limits the results will be disadvantageous.
The Arab name Sader means “bosom of Cassiopeia”. This star is not really considered unlucky, but a certain amount of demonic power seems to be ascribed to it, critical results must be ascribed to Hamal which is only 8′ distant. [6]
Schedir in most spellings is a mishandling of the emphatic Arabic S in Al Sadr, the Breast. It lies at the more acute apex of a large W in the sky which represents the Queen on her throne. There is no Ptolemaic classification for any of her stars, surprising for such a clearly visible figure, but this may be because of Schedir’s near-conjunction with Hamal of Aries.
The Queen’s capacity for disastrous bombast suggests the same Mars-Saturn simile we find with Hamal, save for the generous gratitude she showed then to Perseus, so Mars-Jupiter seems the best likeness. The man or woman with this star strong may have great qualities to rule over others, but should beware of letting it go to his/her head. [7]
The ancients believed that Schedir was a signification of makers of jewelry and those who earn their livelihood from the arts, especially as fine craftsmen. [8]
Constellation Cassiopeia
According to Ptolemy this constellation is of the nature of Saturn and Venus. It is said to give haughtiness, boastfulness and exaggerated pride, but at the same time the power of commanding respect. It is associated by the Kabalists with the Hebrew letter Beth and the 2nd Tarot Trump “The High Priestess.” [9]
The constellation Cassiopeia (Cas) presages events that concern Africa and African people. Its bright stars are said to have the nature of Saturn (Schedir) and Venus (Rucha). [8]
