Leo Constellation [Stellarium]

The Sun joins Coxa on September 5

Fixed star Coxa, Theta Leonis, is a 3rd-magnitude single star on the hip of the constellation Leo the Lion.
Magnitude 3.32, spectral type A2 V, color white, chemically peculiar. [1]

θ Leo is officially named Chertan.
Applied in recent times from one spelling of the indigenous Arabic lunar mansion name al-khurtän, “the Two Small Ribs (at or near the breast),” for δ and θ Leo. The more common and apparently correct spelling of the lunar mansion name is al-kharātān, of unknown meaning.
or Coxa, from the Latin term “in coxis,” intended as “in the Hips,” originally for θ Leo and the unidentified 21st star of Ptolemy’s Lion constellation. The term was used in a Renaissance translation of a late Islamic star catalog (the latter Persian source, with many terms retained from the Arabic Almagest). The singular “Coxa,” “the Hip,” was then applied as a star name to θ Leo in recent times.
In comparison, the Medieval Latin Almagest consistently used the word coxa to mean “thigh,” not “hip,” and the word appears as such in the constellation Leo in describing the stars ι and σ. Furthermore, our teo stars θ and the 21st of Leo, were poorly described as on the pixis vertibri, “socket of the vertebra” (where vertebrum was intended in the same sense as ancha, a word properly used for “hip” elsewhere in the Medieval Latin Almagest [for example see θ Aqr]). [2]

θ, 3.5,
in the manzil Al Zubrah, shares with δ the title Al Ḣarātān, Al Bīrūnī saying that “when they rise Suhail is seen in Al Izak,” — wherever this may be. The Century Cyclopedia gives Chort as the individual name, from the combined title. Ulug Beg substituted the 5th‑magnitude Fl. 72 for δ as the second member of the manzil, his translator placing them in coxis, “in the hips,” as does the Heis Atlas.
With δ on the hind quarter, it constituted the 9th manzil, Al Zubrah, “the Mane,” —  a strange title for star and station so far away from that feature of the animal. δ and θ also were Al Kāhil al Asad, the Space between the Shoulders of the Lion; and Al Ḣarātān, sometimes transcribed Chortan, and translated the “Two Little Ribs,” or the two Khurt, or Holes, penetrating into the interior of the Lion; but all these seem as inapplicable as are the other titles.
In India they marked the corresponding nakshatra, Pūrva Phalgunī. On the Euphrates they were Kakkab Kua, the constellation of the god Kua, the Oracle; and in Egypt, according to Hewitt, Mes‑su, “the Heart of Su.” In Sogdiana they were Wadha, “the Wise;” in Khorasmia, Armagh, “the Great;” and with the Copts Pikhōrion, “the Shoulder.”
In China it was Tsze Seang, the Second Minister of State. [3]

θ Leo belongs to the Chinese asterism Tai Wei You Yuan, “Right Wall” of the “Supreme Palace Enclosure.” Its astronomical name is Tai Wei You Yuan Si, “Taiwei Right Wall Four,” and it represents Xi Ci Xiang, the “Second Western Minister.” [4]

Coxa Astrology

Fixed star Coxa has the spectral type A2, indicating the planetary nature of Venus.

SPECTRAL CLASS A: These bluish-white stars give great honors, artistic appreciation, unexpected gains, good fortune, riches, good judgment, sociableness, creativeness, idealism, and impulsiveness. Challenging aspects cause wantonness, indiscretion, scandals, foolhardiness, destructiveness, cleverness, many anxious moments and a self-seeking nature. [5]

On the Euphrates, Coxa and Zosma were the god Kua, the Oracle. [6] Therefore, like Zosma, Coxa may give the ability to prophecy.

Coxa is one of the five stars in the Taiwei Right Enclosure, an asterism in the Taiwei Enclosure.

The Taiwei Enclosure represents the Supreme Palace, the seat of power and governance, impartially administering the law, supervising promotions, bestowing virtues, receiving talismans from the constellations, and granting authority to all gods, thus easing doubts and resolving disputes.

The Taiwei Right Wall Enclosure represents the Western Wall of the Supreme Palace and symbolizes the military and political power of the state.

Coxa represents the Second Western Minister, the Second Western Prime Minister, or the Western Vice Chancellor. [7]

Coxa has an administrative function with special influence on judicial and commercial activities. When it forms a specific aspect with Mars, it is believed to foreshadow revisions to legal provisions or changes in commercial contracts. [8]

The functional position of the Second Western Minister (Coxa) is equivalent to a deputy prime minister or a second-ranking regent in the human world. His position is one rank below the prime minister (the head of all officials under the Emperor).

The Second Western Minister also implies the symbolic meaning of “civil officials becoming military generals,” or “using civil officials to control the military”.

If the brightness of Coxa gradually increases, it means that civil officials have penetrated into military power.

Generally, anomalies or changes in the brightness of Coxa foretell a change in deputy officials, an imbalance of power, or disorder in construction. It implicitly suggests dereliction of duty by the Ministry of Works. [10]

When Mars enters the Taiwei Right Enclosure, ministers kill each other; the land is in turmoil; the palace must defend itself; wicked ministers will be executed; the ruler will personally lead troops or be promoted to a high-ranking official, prime minister, or censor.

When Mercury enters the Taiwei Right Enclosure, and the ruler is in charge, it signifies chaos, disaster in the harem, or a great flood.

When a comet enters the Taiwei Right Enclosure, the ruler’s decrees are unusual, the army will suffer a loss, and the law enforcement officials will execute the guilty. [7]

When Venus enters the Taiwei Right Enclosure, the emperor appoints treacherous officials.” It warns the Emperor against his favoritism towards treacherous ministers and alludes to the prime minister’s loss of his position.

A bright star in the Taiwei Right Enclosure indicates a well-governed nation, where laws are enforced. [10]

Leo Constellation

LEO.   The Lion.
Legend.   This constellation represents the Nemean Lion, originally from the Moon, that was slain by Hercules.
Influence.   Ptolemy makes the following observations: “Of the stars in Leo, two in the head are like Saturn and partly like Mars. The three in the neck are like Saturn, and in some degree like Mercury. . . . Those in the loins . . . Saturn and Venus: those in the thighs resemble Venus, and, in some degree, Mercury.” It is said that the stars in the neck, back and wing all bring trouble, disgrace and sickness affecting the part of the body ruled by the sign, especially if they happen to be in conjunction with the Moon. By the Kabalists, Leo is associated with the Hebrew letter Kaph and the 11th Tarot Trump “Strength.” [9]

In mundane astrology, Leo Constellation is associated with royal events, especially the ascension or death of kings and queens, the election or death of heads of state, assassinations, uprisings and massacres, currency and the stock exchange, the Vatican and the European Union.
