The presidential election in Afghanistan on August 2009 occurred on the day of the New Moon. It was an absolute disaster with Taliban attacks, bombings, hundreds killed, and fraud ending in a recount. The fixed stars involved and the transits to the Afghanistan horoscope were shockers so the astrology matched very well the outcome. The August 20 New Moon was conjunct the fixed star Adhafera, “connected with suicide poison, corrosive acids, liquid explosives, liquid fire, lying, stealing and crime” [1]. That is the rising star in the Taliban Horoscope. The transits to the Afghan horoscopes for the first election day, August 20 2009 were:

Jupiter conjunct Uranus
Mars conjunct North Node

The Afghanistan horoscope seems to have worked rather well to describe that initial election, so this will be an interesting exercise in astrological prediction to see what may happen in this runoff. The data for this Afghanistan horoscope comes from Astro Databank, rated A for accurate [2]. The runoff election will take place in less than two weeks on 07 November 2009.

To start off, the October New Moon is on a much nicer fixed star. Arcturus is considered to be one of the most fortunate of all fixed stars. That New Moon sextiles the Afghan Venus by 09′. This is a good start. The 02 November Full Moon at 10 Taurus trines the Afghan Mercury by 03′, oh yes! Back at the first election, transiting Pluto was conjunct the Afghan Sun by 07′, for the runoff, Pluto will be 48′ past which should make a difference.

Transiting Uranus for the initial election was on the Afghan Moon by 38′ and will this time be more than two degrees inferior, having retrograded. This time around transiting Saturn does square the Afghan Sun by 14′ but this is not as an explosive transit as some last time around, more a testing and maturing transit.

Transiting Jupiter is more than three degrees from the Afghan Uranus, unlike the first election where it was under one degree conjunct. This again reduces the explosive and rebellious atmosphere. Transiting Mars sextiling the Afghan Saturn should add stability and transiting Venus on the Descendant surely is a nice change.

So in summary, the transits this time around suggest that the runoff election should be more peaceful and more productive of an outcome than the August presidential election. Venus is peace and women, so both have a good chance with the New Moon sextiling the Afghan Venus and transiting Venus on the Descendant. Lets all hope the astrology plays out this way.
